Thursday Thirteen #21: GradNite at Disneyland!

"Whaddya gonna do now?!?"
"I'm going to" ...

Bein’ a high school teacher is a really hard job, but it does come with some “perks”. Mom gets to do one of these “perks” tonight: Chaperone GradNite at Disneyland.

For those of you who’ve never been to California to experience Disneyland, it’s not known as the “Happiest Place on Earth” for nothing. GradNite is like "happy" on crack!

Kids of all ages love to visit the Magic Kingdom,so each weekend in May and June, Disneyland (and Disney’s California Adventure) have special events just for graduating seniors. Disneyland opens at 11:59 PM and stays open until 6:00 AM for rides, music, and dancing until dawn. Mom's favorite aspect of the overnighter in the Park is that there are no little kids and no strollers. Efurryone at GradNite is a high school senior or OLDER!

The kids at Mom’s school pay about $75 for a GradNite ticket and a seat on a charter bus (teachers who are smart and prepared bring videos for the kids to watch while on the bus). Mom doesn’t have to pay ANYTHING since she's volunteering outside her contracted duty hours ... She gets to go for free and bring a guest, too. This year, Mom’s taking Grandma. Uncle James, who’s a substitute teacher at Mom’s school, and his fiancée (Shadow Saluki’s mom) got asked to go, too. They’ll be chaperoning another bus ... And even better, the chaperone room has seats, recent theatrical releases, and FREE food and drinks (they even get a coupon for either dinner or breakfast)! The only things chaperones pay for are souveniers!

So, in honor of our fambly’s trip up to Anaheim, I’m dedicating this week’s Thursday Thirteen to ...

The Thirteen Rides/Attractions That My Fambly Will Enjoy At Disneyland’s GradNite

1. Pirates of the Caribbean ... For GradNite, all of the supersized boats are running ... AND Captain Jack Sparrow! Meeooww.

2. The Haunted Mansion ... Double the “Doom Buggies” for faster lines!

3. The Matterhorn ... Both sides running for “racing” action
4. Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters ... Fun ride, short line, FREE souvenier photos to email home!

5. Jungle Cruise ... A nice, long ride for when the legs are tired.
6. Space Mountain ... The new sound and smoother track make for an exhilarating ride!

7. Splash Mountain ... Another fun rollercoaster-type ride with a nice SPLASH at the end.
8. The Many Adventures of Pooh ... Definitely a “kiddie” ride, but often deserted so you can ride again, and again, and again!
9. The Mad Tea Party ... AKA “barf cups” ... This ride makes Uncle James sick, but Mom loves it!
10. Dumbo the Flying Elephant ... Mom likes this one for its nostalgic value.
11. Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and Alice in Wonderland ... Both are fun ways to spend a little time.
12. The Enchanted Tiki Room ... Fond memories of pineapple and Mom's grandma back in the early '80s ... Nostalgia again.
13. Gadget's Go Coaster ... A harmless little coaster in "Toon Town".

Now Disneyland’s managers aren’t stupid. Some rides are CLOSED during GradNite ‘cuz they’re just too hard to police.

A. It’s a Small World: It is just too tempting for kids. They jump out of the boats and wreak havoc.
B. Big Thunder Mountain: Troubles occur because that area of the Park is especially dark.
C. Indiana Jones Adventure: It always seems to be broken at GradNite time.
D. Pinocchio’s Daring Journey: Boats that move very slowly and tempt kids to run amok.

Oh, and check out my fashionable hat! Maybe I could stow away in Mom’s purse? Too bad they’re not allowed to bring backpacks. I’d fit right in! I've got my own 'Maus'-keteer hat!

Here's Charmee wearin' my hat!

And Cocoa Puff, too!

Way too much 'citement for us! We are homebody kitties. We want our softy-sleep places, our out side sunny places, a few frogs and mice an birdies to watch, for dinner, some sritchies, an a treat once a light and that is all we can stand.

But we are sure glad you 'njoyed yourself. You deserve it!
