Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt #92: METAL

Today's Photo Hunter's theme is METAL! There are a bunch of metal things in this photo. There's a Thanksgiving turkey. There's Mom's weapon of choice: A METAL mini bat for bonking intruders on the melon! There's a METAL basket that holds the logs for my fireplace. An' then there's Lightning Rod. He's the METAL cat who chillaxes on the hearth when I'm not warmin' my bunnies there.

An' while we're on the subject of stuff in the living room, a bunch of folks wanted to see the new floors that we got a couple of weeks ago ...

The house is about 1300 square feet in total and the only rooms that didn't get new flooring were the master bathroom (which will be getting new sinks and storage first) and the mudroom ('cuz the washer/drier and the industrial freezer are better on the existing tile).

All of the work took two days with a crew of two Russian guys who work for Empire Flooring (you know the number: 1-800-588-2300) an' cost a little over $12,000.00 with coupons and discounts.

Additionally, Mom got some Sky Panels (Art Ceiling of Oregon) to fill the otherwise boring light fixtures that we have in the kitchen an' living room. She got the idea sitting in the exam chair at the dentist 'cuz he had them up an' they looked so cool. The living room ones didn't photograph well 'cuz the lights were on, but the kitchen ones are sure pretty in this photo.

I'm not gonna show the photos of the tons of boxes an' oodles of junk that got moved around inside the house while stuff was bein' changed 'cuz Mom would wring my neck (it was pretty horrible) ... But I will post photos of the house when it's all decorated for Sandy Clawrs! Keep watchin'!

We have THREE Winners!

Mom went through all thirty-nine comments an' Grandma selected the three winners in our "Super-secret Thanksgiving Commentathon Contest" ... Did you win?!?  I dunno ... Hee, hee.

Here are the three prize winners who'll be getting boxes from their men-in-the-bloo-shorts as soon as they email  me with their snail mail addresses:

1.  Sniffie an' the Florida Furkids
2.  Dr. Tweety of da Fab Five
3.  Catzee

Please email me at daisymaemausATcoxDOTnet with your snail mail address an' your fabulous prize will go zippin' off to you.  Please put "Thanksgiving prize" in the subject heading of your email so that Mom won't accidentally delete your message.  Hurry!

UPDATE:  I have heard from Dr. Tweety an' Little Cat Zee already ... but the Furkids haven't contacted me yet.  All of the packages are ready to go out in Saturday's post!

EVEN MORE UPDATES:  The Squillions won by Samoa an' Percy are finally finished (Could Mom possibly paint any more slowly?!?) ... an' are ready to be packed up for shipping out to Samoa's an' Percy's famblys on Saturday, too!  Mom put a shiny coat of gloss on them an' is waiting for them to have a hard finish before she wraps them in their bubbles an' sends them on their way.

Thanks for bein' so patient with Mom's schedule, Samoa an' Percy.  She says that she thinks that she captured your essence even if your Squillions aren't doppelgangers ...

Happy Thanksgiving (an' BIRTHDAY to Mom)

We wanna wish efurryone in the blogosphere (an' their famblies) a HAPPY TURKEY DAY, but first we wanna wish Mom a happy forty-first birthday.

She's been sick since Sunday when she got food poisoning drinking a two-ounce sample of Trader Joe's apple cider.  She even stayed home from school (after driving down there to write lesson plans).

Then she pulled a muscle in her back (the right side) an' paralyzed herself while "prayin' to the porcelain god".  She had to have Grandma drive her to work 'cuz she couldn't do any fine motor things with her right hand.

Now she's better ... or so she claims.  She's promised lots of turkey for us 'cuz she doesn't have much of an appetite.  She hasn't been eatin' much, so she wasn't too thrilled when her students wanted to hug her for her birthday an' they squeezed too hard (she says).

Be thankful for your health this holiday ... an' be sure to share some of those good eats wit' your kitties an' woofies (an' give some green leafy veggies to your buns an' rats)!

Chow down, doods (an' doodettes)!

Stupidity on Sunday ...

One of Mom's teacher-friends sent this group of newspaper headlines to Mom 'cuz its further proof that 'beans don't necessarily understand the language that they SUPPOSEDLY speak/read/write fluently.  Do you agree??

Proof Readers a Dying Breed
This should really say:  Proof-readers a Dying Breed (Jessica)

Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter
This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this.  It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!!  They put in a correction the next day.

Want holiday greetings from DaisyMae an' the FAs?

Hey, efurryone ... I've been doin' my holiday cards an' I realized that I don't have all of your snail mail addresses to send you greetings! If you'd like a greeting from the Feline Americans an' me, please email me at daisymaemausATcoxDOTnet with the address to your house an' I'll send you our 2008 Feline Americans photo card.

If you got greetings from me LAST year an' you haven't moved to a new house between then an' now, you're already on a card ready to be popped into the mail ... If you can't remember (too much 'nip???) or you moved or you didn't get a card, please email me! We're helpin' the economy by ordering cards from Shutterfly an' buyin' lots of little stickers from the man in the bloo shorts.

Email me, okay?

Thoughts on Sunday

It's 87 degrees right now in sunny San Diego, so Mom's got the air conditioner goin' an' we're hangin' out on our new laminate floors ... but it's still kinda hot, so I visited Better Homes an' Gardens where I made my furry own Virtual Snowflake! Check it out! Isn't it pretty? An' since it's a "virtual" 'flake, it won't melt!

Gettin' new laminate floors! Yay!

Okay ... I'm going to be off-line until the weekend, 'cuz we're getting new floors. I'm not GONE, just unavailable.

Repeal Proposition 8: It's DISCRIMINATORY

Hi efurryone ...

Mom was furry disappointed last week when California voters approved Proposition 8. She has many friends who are gay or lesbian, an' who got married over the past few months when marriages between same-sex couples were valid an' legal.

She signed a pledge to
Repeal Proposition 8. If you're a California voter an' are unhappy about the discrimination that Prop 8 will put into our state constitution, you can join her and over 100,000 members of the Courage Campaign.

Californians are progressive thinkers and have a live-an'-let-live philosophy on just about any topic. It's odd that such discriminatory legislation would pass ... Please sign this pledge an' help make marriage a possibility for ALL Californians.

Thanks!

Veterans' Day 2008

It's the eleventh month an' the eleventh day ... so at the eleventh hour, we'll be honoring America's veterans for Veterans' Day.

In other countries, this day is called Rememberance Day ...

We really liked this graphic that came as part of an email from Miles Kimball catalog merchandising ... so we co-opted it for posting today on our bloggie.  We hope that the legal folks at Miles Kimball don't sue us ...

We are honoring our grandad who served in Viet Nam along with his brothers (our Uncle Frank an' Uncle Lou), family friend Al W., Dennis (who's in the Coast Guard Reserves), an' Mom's next-door colleague who was in the Marine Corps during the end of Viet Nam.

Our service people are a dedicated lot who truly know the meaning of "brave," "hero," "honor," "sacrifice," "country," and "freedom."  Without their efforts, we wouldn't enjoy the freedoms that we do today.

Hats off to them ... and our sincerest thanks for all they have done in the service of our country.  Freedom isn't free ...

ManCat Monday: Pounce Lickittys!

Charmee an' Mr. Fuzzypants here!

We're takin' over da blog today ... on ManCat Monday, o' course ... to rave 'bout a great new treat dat Mom buyed for us (we're sayin' "us" here a'cuz da two of us ate da whole treat an' didn't share it wif any other Feline 'merican!). Dat new treat is called Pounce Lickittys. It's furry cool an' tasty (Mom here:  And it's not MESSY.).

Mom buyed it at PetSmart yesterday an' it only costed 99¢ ... Der was only one left in da whole store, so Mom's gonna hafta go to another PetSmart today an' get some more.
If'n you don't got any thumbs, it's kinda hard to unwrap it an' set it up, but Mom's got thumbs, so ours got stuck to da wall wifout any troubles.  If you follow deese 'structions (an' pictures), you won't got any pro'lems.
Da only flavor that deese come in is chik-hens ... but we LIKES chik-hens, so 'nother pro'lem avoided, right?

If you've gots some free time, go to the Lickittys page an' watch the funny bideo ... We watched it a whole buncha times a'cuz it's so hi-lair-ee-us ... You can find it here.

Makin' cookies ...

Charmee likes to help Mom with stuff in the kitchen ... He tests the oven to see if it's hot enough by tryin' to climb into it. He sticks his paws into the Kitchenaid bowl for tastes of frosting. He walks on the cookie sheets. Needless to say, when Mom's tryin' to bake something, she does a lot of re-washing of things an' a whole lot of "Charmee, NOOOOO!"

This is one of Charmee's cookies. He claims that it's supposed to be Sparky Fuzzypants. I have my doubts.  He wanted it posted on the blog for efurryone to have ... so he signed MY name to the card.  He's quite wily, but he's not THAT sly ...

Eat it at your own risk, okay?

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt #91: TOGETHER

Before this week's PhotoHunt, we wanna take a moment to wish Grandma a happy 63rd birthday today! Here's a photo of her TOGETHER with Grandad at a beach near Crescent City last year ...

Today's Photo Hunter's theme is TOGETHER!

Back in the older days with the Cats Who Came Before, Mom didn't have much trouble getting photos of them TOGETHER doin' stuff like hangin' out on the cat condo or havin' a birthday party ... But nowadays, it's pretty much impossible to get us all TOGETHER unless she spreads a layer of Temptations on the floor for us to "peck up" like a flock of chickens.

So, what to publish for TOGETHER?? I'm pretty well flummoxed, so I'll publish a photo from one of Mom's favorite holidays ... Thanksgiving! BTW: Her birthday is on Thanksgiving again this year.

Here is one of the Cats Who Came Before: Original Feline American Lacey Bunns. Lacey was a tiny little Tuxie girl, but she had a GINORMOUS appetite for food. She weighed about seven pounds at her furry largest an' was mostly fur an' fangs.

This is Lacey waitin' for efurryone to sit TOGETHER at the kitchen table an' enjoy Thanksgiving.

A Peaceable Kingdom: Dona Nobis Pacem

There's a whole lot goin' on today. It's Thursday Thirteen (an' I've been furry delinquent with my TT posts lately) an' it's also the Blog Blast for Peace bein' shepherded by Mimi. Mom got a great set of photos in an email from her dear friend Rose, too ... So I'm gonna combine efurrything into a ginormous THURSDAY posting ...

When hurricane Hannah separated two white tigers from their mother, Anjana came to the rescue. Anjana, a chimp at TIGERS in South Carolina, became surrogate mom and playmate to the cubs, even helping with bottle feeding. But here's the truly amazing part: Anjana does this all the time having raised leopard and lion cubs.

So here's a Thursday Thirteen of KYOOT white tiger cubs bein' cared for by a chimpanzee. The kitties don't know that Anjana isn't their momma ... they just know that she loves them and would do just about anything for them.

If monkeys an' kitties can show altruism an' ignore their fundamental differences ... Can't we?

I say "good for you" to surrogate kitty momma Anjana an' salute her for her compassion an' ability to care for other species.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt #90: Am I BLUE?

Today's Photo Hunter's theme is BLUE!

This is my photo collage that Zoey an' Maggie of Zoolatry made for me last year when the San Diego Chargers were playin' well.

This year, my Chargers AREN'T doin' so hot. We've got a "bye" this week so there's some time to rest up for the remainder of the season ... But until then, I'm feelin' BLUE. Sigh ...
