Thursday Thirteen: Turkey Day Edition

I'm a tad bummed.  Mom is off walkin' a 5K to help support homeless folks, so there aren't any good smells yet at my house.

Gran is gonna bake the turkey after it's finished swimmin' (?) ... oh, soakin' ... in it's brine.  Gran also mentioned somethin' about sticking some aromatics where the sun doesn't shine (ouch?) before slammin' the door on the oven.

All I know is that turkey is good an' I'm so HUNGRY!!!

In honor of Thanksgiving (an' my LOVE of all things turkey), I present the ...

Thursday Thirteen of Cheesy Turkey Riddles

1. What did the mother turkey say to her disobedient children? If your father could see you now, he'd turn over in his gravy!

2. Why do Pilgrims have trouble keeping their pants up? 'Cause they wear their belts on their hats!

3. What is the difference between a chicken and a turkey? Chickens celebrate Thanksgiving!!

4. What is the Turkey's favorite black tie celebration? The Butter Ball

5. How does a Turkey drink her wine? In a gobble-let

6. How many turkeys does it take to change a light bulb? Just one, but it takes 5 hours!

7. Did you hear about the X-rated turkey?  It's served with very little dressing.

8. What do you get when you cross a turkey, the beach, and Broomhilda? A turkey sand-witch

9. What kind of music did Pilgrims listen to? Plymouth Rock!

10. Which side of the turkey has the most feathers?  The outside!

11. What are unhappy cranberries called? Blueberries!

12. Why do turkeys eat so little? Because they are always stuffed!

13. What did the turkey do in the Thanksgiving Day Parade?  He played his drumsticks!

An' ... as a parting shot ... I offer this Thanksgiving blessing to all of you turkey cookers who slave over your stoves an' microwaves preparing the evening's feast:

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

From all of us at DaisyMae Maus and the Feline Americans ...

Happy Thanksgiving
to Efurry Cat, Woofie, an' Bean
(an' efurryone else in the blogosphere)!
Pass the TURKEY an' save me some gravy, too!   Yum!

... an' a belated "Happy Thanksgiving" to efurry Canadian!

An' a THANKSGIVING soup recipe, too ...

Butter Pecan Pumpkin Soup
Fight the chill in the air with a bowl of this rich, savory pumpkin soup. BLUE BUNNY® Butter Pecan ice cream simmers with pureed pumpkin, sautéed onion, ginger and chicken stock to make a soup that'll have everyone asking for seconds.

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups BLUE BUNNY® Butter Pecan ice cream
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons ground ginger
4 cups chicken stock
2 cups canned pureed pumpkin (not pie filling)
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

PREPARATION:
Heat the butter in a pot over medium heat and sauté the onion until tender but not brown. Stir in the flour and ginger and cook for 3 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, stirring to incorporate the pumpkin and simmer for a few hours.

Serves 4 to 6.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We enjoyed your Thanksgiving humor. Jan's not making a turkey today so we're hoping she'll bring us a kitty bag when she returns. Enjoy your feast.
