Help to stop DECLAWING in California!

If your fambly lives in California, please ask the 'beans who are registered voters to write letters to their assembly members an' state senators opposing AB 2427 (Eng) which will reinstitute cruel an' inhumane practices like declawing to parts of our state like West Hollywood ... Essentially, this bill will take away local governments' abilities to decide for themselves.

Mom thinks that declawing is barbaric, so she immediately went to this link www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html an' then inserted our zip code to find out where to send her angry letters opposing AB 2427 (Eng).

Here's what Mom said in her letter ... She says that it's totally OKAY with her if you wanna copy her letter an' send it to your elected people, too.

July 15, 2008

The Honorable Denise Moreno Ducheny, District 40
California State Senate
State Capitol, Room 5035
Sacramento, CA 94248-0001

Dear Senator Ducheny:

It has come to my attention that the California State Senate will be voting on AB 2427 (Eng) in the coming weeks: A bill reinstituting the cruel and inhumane practice of cat declawing. As a cat owner and a registered voter in California, I am appalled by this barbaric practice and vehemently opposed. I request that you vote NO on AB 2427 (Eng).

The California Veterinary Medical Association is in favor of cat de-clawing for financial gain entirely. Declawing is in no way beneficial to felines. It is, in fact, comparable to amputation of human fingers at the first knuckle. No business interest should subvert or restrict the rights of citizens to establish their own local policies and preferences. No business interest should be allowed to dictate policy to all California local governments ... least of all policies that are inhumane and barbaric.

California’s courts have upheld the right of local governments to respond to the changing conditions and values in their own area. AB 2427 prevents communities from deciding what veterinary procedures they will allow in their jurisdictions. This could affect future restrictions on declawing, tail docking, ear cropping and similar inhumane procedures on domesticated and farmed animals.

As California continues to grow, attempts to restrict local government results in even greater disenchantment of voters with their representatives. To ignore the will of people who elected you is to subvert the principles that made us a nation.

I emphatically request that you vote NO on AB 2427 (Eng).

Sincerely,

BUT YOU HAFTA HURRY! The vote's gonna happen in just a few days an' it's vitally important that this bill FAIL!

Oh dear! I hope they do not reinstitute declawing. That would be a huge step backwards. I am surprised that a forward-thinking state like California would even think about reinstituting the practice of declawing.

Good for you to blog about this and to write a letter against this inhumane practice. We wish no state or country allowed the declawing of cats!

Declawing is not allowed in New Zealand, unless it is necessary for a kitties health. We hope the message about declawing gets out.

I hope they gets lots of letters in California.

Ooh. I wish that I could be a Californicat just to vote against this law (or get my beans to). I might call Arnie personally and tell him to throw the bill out.

I don't know if de-clawing is allowed in the U.K. but I don't know of anyone here who has had this barbaric thing done to their cat. What a backward step if California passes this bill. Your letter is excellent. :) xxx

What a great letter, DaisyMae. I don't know what I would do without my claws as a weapon for self-defense (Okay, a little offense with Bathsheba!).

I have been sick on and off, but mostly feel better now. One thing the doctor did was increase my thyroid medicine - yuck. Mom doesn't hide the pills in my food any more since I won't eat it then. Actually, my appetite hasn't gotten back to normal. I think Mom should feed me fresh chicken and salman--and she might have to resort to that.

We haven't blogged in a long time because of a variety of reasons, chief among them our problems with our home computer and our secretary's lack of time to help us. She has been lazy about getting the computer fixed. It's driving US mad.

Anyway, I didn't want my beautiful DaisyMae to forget me! I think of you every day.

Smooches,
~Jake

Declawing shood be illegal evrywhare! Sumday maybe even Texas will see the lite. I wish I kood find a vet that diddint make munney from declawing. How inny vet can justify this is beyond me. Espeshully when thare are so manny alternatives. Wile I'm not a fan of government intervenshun, it takes a law somtimes to make peeple do the rite thing.
