And the verdict is ...

GUILTY!

Those of you who have been following Mom's adventures in the legal system will be heartened to know that a modicum of justice was served today when Mom got a voicemail from the assistant district attorney handling the case against the man who mugged Mom last May 22nd.

Mom testified on Wednesday and the jury heard other testimony on Thursday. After some deliberation, a verdict was submitted on Friday afternoon. The mugger was found guilty of one count of armed robbery. Let's hope that his sentencing (March 19th) results in some prison time. Apparently, the penalty for robbing someone at gunpoint and threatening to kill them is a maximum of three years. In my mind, he needs more "punishment" than that ... But, I am a cat, so my opinion doesn't hold much weight with the legal system.

Yay for JUSTICE! That mugger is a very bad man. I hope he has to stay in his own prison box for a long time. So we can stay safe from him.

I am glad to hear that the criminal justice system works. You are right though, it seems like it's not a very long time.

Lock him up and throw away the key.

Lets hope he stays in the full amouth of time that he is sentenced for, at least.

That's all he got? I think we should find some kitties near him to go lay a good smackdown on him. Kitties with claws. They smackdown really well...

I agree with efurryone ... That doesn't seem like much time for what Mom called a "habitual criminal" who's likely to "re-offend" rather than "rehabilitate." Let's hope that the universe has plans for him and those plans come to fruition as swiftly as possible.

Oh, my, DaisyMae, we had no idea your Mom had such a horrible experience last year. How frightening! We'll have to search your blog for more details. We hope that you get good news at the March 19th sentencing. That's our mom's birthday.

That is wonderful news! I sure hope the sentencing is strong for that bad man. It sounds like the penalties should be stiffer.

Hi Daisymae. Phoebe told me that you said "hey". I'm glad to hear about the guilty verdict in this case. That must have been a very scary thing to get mugged at gunpoint. I'm very glad that nothing worse happened to your mom.

We dont unnerstand Big Things sometimes. Some of them seem to kill each other or threaten to. We see that on the sparkly box sometimes.

We have gotten inna couple fights wif offer kitties but it never came to that. Somekitty allas runs and that's the end of it.

We hope the Big Things in charge of other Big Things do something to stop the mean one from hurting others though!

We think that mean Big Thing needs a kitty to get him straight. A really BIG KITTY! We've seen them on the sparkly box; kitties bigger than Big Things. That might solve things...
