Saturday Photo Hunt #10: Aberdeen Lake 2006

This week's theme is "ARCHITECTURE".

For today's Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, I'm postin' a photo of a place that is near and dear to Mom's heart ... a place from her childhood that she'd visit every summer when her family would make their August trip to Washington State to visit her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. This is my photo of "ARCHITECTURE".

Just outside of the town where Mom was born is a small lake tailor-made for learnin' to swim, searching for salamanders, or fishin' for a few small fish: Aberdeen Lake.

Since Mom's last visit to Washington was a brief 47 hours, she didn't get to visit this lake herself ... So our grandma and grandad took this photo when they were in the Pacific Northwest on their last trip. They mentioned that the lake itself looks much the same, but the surrounding area is being upgraded. The day that they were there, the lake was nearly deserted ... It was always noisy and crowded when Mom was a kid. They took a picture of this bridge ... and took some time to reflect on the changes.

mama knows the new caretakers out at aberdeen lake ('godparents' carol's and don's son & daughter-in-law).

mama says she remembers lots and lots of days at the lake. grandma (her mama) would take her and at least one friend to spend the day.

at least one year, grandma took mama and some friends to the lake on the last day of school for an INVIGORATING dip to start summer vacation! (brrrr!)

thanks for prompting the memories...

That is an idyllic summer spot for whileing away summer days! I bet it has hundreds of beautiful birds, too.
