Mmmm ... Restaurant Week 9/'09

Mom came home from a conference today an' then left again. It's Restaurant Week in San Diego for the second time this year an' Mom had reservations with Grandma an' Grandpa for the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant.

The 94th Aero Squadron is located near a small airport where diners can watch landings and take-offs of small non-commercial airplanes. Mom's always wanted to try this restaurant because the people she babysat for when she was a teenager would eat at the 94th whenever they wanted a romantic "night out." The inside is vintage WWII with Sirius Satellite Radio tuned to 1940s music for ambiance.

Anyway, the 94th Aero Squadron was featuring the $30.00 price point for its pre fixe menu, so with tip, Mom's check for dinner was $119.00 ... Not too bad for three adults.

Choice of First/Appetizers Course

Macadamia-Crusted Sea Scallops

Seared and served with a Roasted Bell Pepper Sauce.

Summer Caprese Salad

Fresh Mozzarella, Sliced Tomatoes, and Basil Leaves served over Bibb Lettuce with a Balsamic Glaze

94th Aero Squadron's Famous Beer Cheese or French Onion Soup

Choice of Second/Main Course

Slow-Roasted Angus Prime Rib of Beef

A 10-oz. cut, served au jus, with creamy horseradish and your choice of Baked Potato or Yukon Gold Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Creamed Corn.

Grilled Fresh Halibut with Summer Salsa

With diced Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Red & Orange Bell Peppers, Fresh Scallions, and Mild Anaheim Peppers. Served over a Medley of Roasted Fingerling Potatoes.

Chicken Mozzarella Pesto

Baked Breast of Chicken stuffed with Mozzarella Cheese, Fresh Basil, Mushrooms, Fresh Spinach, Red Bell Peppers, and a Fresh Basil-Mint Pesto. Topped with a Thyme Beurre Blanc Sauce and served with Yukon Gold Garlic Mashed Potatoes or Rice Pilaf.

Choice of Third/Dessert Course

House Signature Apple-Walnut Upside-Down Pie

Served warm with Cinnamon Ice Cream

Flourless Chocolate Crème Brulée Tower

Served with Fresh Raspberry Sauce

Fresh Mixed Berries

Served with Grand Marnier Sauce & Whipped Cream

Mom had the beer/cheese soup, the prime rib (cooked medium-rare) with a baked potato and some absolutely decadent creamed corn, with the mixed berries for dessert ... she had to forgo the Grand Marinier Sauce, though.

Grandma had a mushroom and brandy-sauced skirt steak that was added at the last minute, and Grandad had halibut. Their desserts ... the creme brulee and the apple-walnut cake ... are boxed for Mom for later. Diabetic parents make great dinner guests 'cuz their desserts become OUR desserts. Meow!
